Did you know? Sliced bread has been around for less than a century! It was first sold in a bakery in 1928 and was advertised as "the greatest forward step in the baking industry since bread was wrapped". This led to the popular idiom "The greatest thing since sliced bread".

In 1943 the United States temporarily imposed a ban on this innovation for wartime conservation measures regarding resources and a bunch of economic mumbo jumbo that I can’t explain because it’s beyond my expertise.

Helpful tip passed down from a long line of homemakers, grandmothers, mothers, and daughters! Add a piece of sliced bread to a container or bag of freshly baked cookies to keep them soft! The extra moisture from the bread maintains the humidity level and slows down moisture loss from the cookies. Don’t add too many slices, your cookies can actually turn mushy if you do!
