I find that with every learning challenge, there are also areas of strength unique to the individual that should be recognized…and I rely on data to prove it!
I help students to be able to functionally and socially communicate with others in order to meet their needs and to reach their personal goals; however, I also feel strongly that individual quirks and uniqueness are attributes to be embraced and not snuffed out for the purposes of complete conformity.
I tend to be put off by terms such as “neurotypical” and have begun to embrace the concept of neurodiversity without negating the fact that some individuals do face challenges that are specific to their neurological/biological makeup and environmental/cultural experiences.
On a personal note, I am interested in creative writing, amateur photography, alternate views on spirituality, nature mysticism, miniatures, tag-sailing, and restoring old furniture and other random finds. I am analytical and constantly self-evaluating, and I am always interested in hearing alternative perspectives in order to broaden my own worldview.
