Toxic family & organizational systems have a lot in common. While everyone is harmed by workplace incivility, bullying, ostracism & harassment, victims of familial narcissism are often particularly sensitized to (& triggered by) extrafamilial dysfunction. Sadly, psychosocial stressors in the workplace are re-traumatizing to people who were neglected or otherwise suffered from adverse childhood experiences.
Dysfunctional family systems & organizations victimize & victim shame scapegoats, while celebrating favorites. In families, these roles are assigned by the narcissistic parent(s). Organizations also scapegoat individuals.
In these cultures, unspoken rules of engagement apply. In both families & organizations, systemic toxicity & oppression often persists for generations. In families, inter or trans-generational trauma leaves people feeling unheard, unseen, and neglected for much of their lives, if they weren’t also subjected to overt abuse and exploitation.
We provide hope & faith & love for those needing to parent themselves & endorse trauma-informed & integrated care practices for the treatment of Complex-PTSD.
