Phusikoi is a term coined by Aristotle to describe the “pre-Socratics” beginning with Thales from Miletus. The Phusikoi (from the word Phusis meaning natural or essence) were the first to apply a rational (natural) approach to explaining how and why things happen vs. the supernatural explanations of those that preceded them. The Phusikoi developed the language foundation of western thought at a time when science, philosophy, and spirituality were essentially the same thing.
