I remember a former boss from an early role telling me in an annual review that “you’re doing great and we love the work you do, but we notice you talk a lot to your colleagues, not in your department. Maybe cut back on that.” I remember asking, “Well, what role would allow me to speak and build relationships outside of my department?” Alas, a future salesperson was born.
Being stereotyped as a typical ‘salesperson’ is my biggest pet peeve. My passion for building long-term relationships professionally and personally, as well as, curiosity around multiple different industries, products, technologies, and applications is the common thread throughout my career.
Currently, I’m learning a new technology language within the User Interface and Printed Electronics worlds. Working in the medical, automotive, industrial controls, safety/fire service, and defense/SBIR verticals, helping to solve the next generation advancements in each respective industry. Each problem solved and advancement developed literally saves lives and improves the lives of the communities they serve. Core values I’m personally aligned with.
Pivoting from marketing into sales isn’t always the norm, but I find that those two departments need the utmost alignment. Knowing both languages is a quest that I continually travel.
I’m most grateful for the opportunities that have gotten me to this point in my career. In addition to my professional work, I continually volunteer on the local Board of Directors for the American Marketing Association and jump at the chance to get involved in my community where needed. I’m always available for mentorship opportunities in sales, marketing, and leadership.
