Bio

Thomas is an advocate and a Partner who heads the Banking and Financial law practice within Rex Attorneys (www.rexattorney.co.tz), in Tanzania. He is an advocate admitted to practice both in Tanzania Mainland and in Zanzibar. He predominantly advise clients on Banking and Finance, Project Finance, M&A and Capital Market transactions.

Thomas has over thirteen (13) years of practicing experience having joined the Firm as a junior counsel and rising to the position of a Partner. He became a Partner when the Firm was organized under the ENSafrica structure following a merger between Rex Attorneys and ENSafrica. Thomas has extensive experience having advised both local and international clients within his practice disciplines on various transactions over the years. Following the restructure of the Firm and the transition back to Rex in 2019 he continues to head the Banking and Finance Practice where he focuses on the same disciplines he has been advising clients over the years and generally also advises on corporate transactions including IP matters.

He is currently advising clients, both local and international, in some of the major transactions in banking and finance, a significant power generation project which also has an element of financing, an ongoing bond transaction and an M&A transaction involving acquisition of the leading automotive company in Tanzania, just to mention a few. He also occassionally represents clients in court as a litigant on civil and commercial suits.

Thomas holds a bachelor’s degree in law, LL.B (Hons) from Middlesex University, London and a master’s degree (LL.M) from Nottingham Trent University, Nottingham.

Thomas is also a certified Aribtrator and Mediator in Tanzania.

Thomas is a member of Tanganyika Law Society (“TLS”), Zanzibar Law Society ("ZLS") and East Africa Law Society (“EALS”).
