As we observe the Xalimo in her natural habitat we notice her fascination with K-dramas but why?
Welcome, brave souls, to the mystical land of KDrama, where the women are as curvy as a freshly ironed shirt and the men are likely to cry over breakfast whilst discussing their innermost fears about abandonment. A land where men remember anniversaries and make grand gestures.
With original storylines such as “rich guy, poor girl” or shocking plot twists such as “amnesia” or “evil mother-in-law.” Or “childhood connection” and not to forget the classic “terminal illness”
Could it be that KDramas idealized portrayals of romance that offers the Xalimo an escape from the realities of her daily struggles Or that Korean dramas emphasis on strange foreign concepts such as emotional connection and respect.
These positive portrayals of love can be appealing to the xalimos species, who are seeking an alternative to Western Media which they perceive as overly explicit or lacking in genuine “emotional depth”.
The allure of KDrama could also be that it presents the Xalimo with a different kind of male image. Unlike the more masculine and stoic males of her own culture. It is said that the men of the KDramas engages strange behaviours such as openly showing emotions or even cooking or making heartfelt declarations of love in the rain and whilst drinking Soy Milk.
Something unthinkable for the men of her own culture who are impeded by high levels of the testosterone and who are attracted to women with curves and are respected for their ability to suppress feelings not express them.
After her 16-episode Kdrama binge, she will be dire need of a hydration break, to replenish the tears she has shed before dehydration sets in.
Next time, we’ll take a detour through the Valley of the Friend Zone – a place many fear to tread,
if the data has not been changed, no new rows will appear.
