Born and raised in Denver, CO I$elf grew fond good of music at an early age after his mom gifted him a Luther Vandross CD for his 10th birthday. He soon grew a liking to R&B drawing inspiration from the works of Musiq Soulchild, Brian McKnight, Blackstreet and many other artist. I-$elf wrote poetry for a good portion of his school attendance and soon would come to like the idea of “poetry in motion.” Soon after I-$elf was born and using his middle name as an pseudo name he would start his pursuit as rapper. Unapproving of the oncoming mumble rap wave, I-$elf would spend much time studying lyricists such as Kendrick Lamar, J.Cole, Eminem and Jay-Z hitmakers such as Drake, A-boogie, and Tory Lanez, and Non-traditional artist such as Chance the Rapper, Smino, & Shawn Harris and many more combining his many idols dispositions with his own style of rap complimenting his cool calm persona. He honed his skills writing songs and free-styling with his friends for about a year and a half. He would then start to take rap a little more seriously in 2016 after releasing his Ten Toes challenge, a tribute to a couple of college friends that were killed. Shortly there after he would go on to record his first single with local artist Cill.e Da Great, Same Ol’ G. Same Ol’ G would go on to be the leading single on the duos debut ep “Same Animal Different Beast” which is now streaming on all platforms
