A lawyer and former startup-founder, who has published 15+ apps/games, and began his legal career working in a refugee camp.
The startups Ryan has cofounded or worked in the C-Suite for, have been featured by major press outlets, including the Wall Street Journal, CNN, and Polygon. He is a frequent panelist and speaker on issues related to tech, law, and international development. In 2014, Ryan won the Audience Award at the prestigious Slush conference in Finland for his talk on tech development and trade in EMEA.
Ryan is passionate about sharing his knowledge with others and has published articles in Vox, Newsweek, The Hill, & Vice, as well as in journals at Cornell, UCLA, & U.Denver's law schools. Ryan has taught classes on Business Law, Emerging Markets, Future Societies, and Consulting Challenges at the MBA and undergraduate level, as well as given talks on International Corporate Structuring and Startup Law at Hult International Business School, Park University, & Duke.
In his spare time, Ryan is an Innovation Fellow for Columbia Business School's Entrepreneurship Center, as well as a mentor for the Hult Prize. (The Hult Prize is a social impact startup competition, involving a "Castle Accelerator," 250,000 students, President Clinton, the UN, & a $1 million prize.)
Ryan has been a licensed to practice law for 12 years and is a graduate of UCLA Law and USC. A long-time global traveler and son of a US diplomat, Ryan has worked in 70 countries and lived in 12.
Ryan's voyage into law school and international entrepreneurship began in a refugee camp, where he founded a startup to generate job opportunities. And, in the process, reversed a 3-year, US ban on hookahs/shisha imports in US Customs Court.
