Bio: Peg Cagle began her working life as an architect, switching careers in response to critical shortages of STEM teachers. While teaching middle school she earned National Board Certification, was L.A. County Teacher of the Year, Raytheon Math Hero, member of USA-Today’s All-USA Teacher Team and recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics Teaching. Beyond the classroom, she served on the Boards of NCTM & CPAM, provided input to the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, participated in panels and site visit teams for the National Science Foundation, and testified before Congress. She left the classroom to be an Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator Fellow in the U.S. Senate on Capitol Hill, and also spent 3 years as practice faculty in mathematics education at Vanderbilt University which also resulted in her advising both the Metro Nashville Public Schools and the Abu Dhabi Education ministry.
Seeking to reconnect with the realities of urban classrooms, as of August 2016, Peg is back in Los Angeles, working as a high school mathematics teacher and department chair in LAUSD. She is also currently a member of 100K in 10’s Teacher Forum & Foundational Math Brain Trust, an NSTA/NCTM STEM Teacher Ambassador, a Math for America master teacher, and serves as director of the Teacher Leadership Program of the Park City Mathematics Institute, an outreach program of the Institute for Advanced Study.
