Creating exiting things with exciting people excites me. Developing ideas with inspiring people inspires me. Helping others sustains me.
I’ve grown a ‘club night for teenagers’ concept from the kitchen table to a team delivering 40 events a month nationally. Hundreds of thousands of teenagers, and a bunch of leading brand partners later, I realised growing and scaling businesses is something I’m good at.
This growth opened other doors. We opened a sister business providing a full management offering for music artistes ranging from All Saints to The Prodigy and many in between (Deadmau5, Boyzone, Steps). Sales rose x10 in the late ‘90s as we took a risk by keying in early to the pop market. Deals with BSkyB a pay-per-view event product and award-winning Compilation CDs followed.
Perhaps importantly in tying these things together though, getting my purpose and values at the centre of my choices today is a must. I’m not afraid to take calculated risks and to be first and, throughout this journey, know that doing what make people smile and being around people I can develop with puts fire in my belly.
These days the cake still rises but the recipe is a little different. I have found inspiration where I used to see the ordinary. In my work as a volunteer for the Red Cross, helping others help themselves sets me alight.
If I had to pick my desert island mates, though, it would be my two amazing boys, Harry and Barney. They make me laugh and cry on a daily basis while trying to be the best dad I can be. Never perfect, but always striving to move toward my potential. To me, that’s happiness.
Right now, I’m busy reshaping something new, something where I can share my experience and expertise, and I’m excited about what will come next. I’m staying true to my own values and building something I’m proud of .... more to follow #entreprenuer #startup #bristol #whynot
