~ Perpetual learner, idealistic educator ~
Over time, I have come to understand that the roles I’ve held say little compared to how I think, what I value, and what questions I want to find answers to.
My time as an educator has led me to dig deeper into understanding how the brain, mind, heart and body integrate to create meaning in our lives and, by extension, how we contribute to the world around us. My greatest hope is to instill in my students a love and passion for learning. I maintain a youthful and naive belief that we are all capable of changing the world by starting with one life.
I have been fortunate that my path has brought me to people who have devoted their lives to the service of others, and who are trailblazers in identifying new ways of forging meaningful connections. These people fight vehemently to prove that the circumstances of our past need not dictate our future, and that we have the power to change the narrative of our personal stories at any time. I hope to someday count myself among those beacons. In the meantime, I continue to question, think, learn, and grow.
Currently, I’m developing my understanding and knowledge base of:
*ACE’s (Adverse Childhood Experiences)
*Trauma-Responsive approaches
*Habits of Mind
*The brain, and how understanding it can guide the way we successfully and meaningfully interact with all types of people
*NVC (Nonviolent Communication)
*Conflict De-Escalation
*Content and curriculum development aimed towards reaching all types of learners
*Optimization of resources (online, social, environmental, and otherwise) to create unique and enduring learning opportunities
Additionally, I seek to utilize my own interests and passions to, in turn, nurture interest and passion within my students. Some of those interests include: writing, cooking/ baking, dance (mostly Latin), theater, film, dining out, travel
