Bio

Meet Mijiza Green, founder and CEO of Treasured Jewels. Founded in 2012, Treasured Jewels is a mentorship program which began with 17 young girls and now has a presence in four schools with 250 members.
A Special Educator within Harford County Public Schools, Mijiza has a degree in Business Management and is presently working towards a Master’s degree in Psychology. Working with children for over 10 years, Mijiza has created programs for the Boys & Girls Club, Harford County Public Schools, YMCA, and Teen Court.
In keeping the success of children at the forefront of her mind, Mijiza had a desire (and need) for additional resources to decrease suspension rates in her school. In 2017, Mijiza developed G.R.A.C.E. Empowerment & Young Men Empowered alongside her husband, Nathanal Green. With a focus on suspended teenagers and those who have committed minor crimes, this program educates teens about self-esteem, conflict resolution, bullying, and more – all to aide our youth in building character.
Today, Mijiza strives each day to impact the life of a youth to ensure they do not experience similar traumas she once did while growing up in Brooklyn, New York. While in the process of completing her first book, “Pretty to be Dark-skinned”, with her husband, four children, and two grandchildren, Mijiza understands her purpose is to tell her story and share her testimony to fulfill her destiny – by creating change in this world and empowering youth, one child at a time.
