Rereading White Too Long by Robert P Jones with compassion.

Growing up in the 90’s, raised in the 80’s, born in 70’s some of us assumed the aspiration of a wife, a mother. Safe bet was to marry and burden the husky man as the source of income until life forced me to make my own. Who knew a loaf of bread would go from a dollar to 5, taco from 25 cents to $2.50 cents and water was virtually free until it wasn’t and to some, cost them their lives. So I understand why folks are angry and sore because they’re poor, but don’t take this out on us, we’re not a scapegoat. Don’t hate us, you don’t want to be us, we labor just like you, get taxed just like you, we sacrifice hrs of time away from our home and from our children so they don’t have to. Let it echo from the hilltop that we’re all hurting my friend. Sadden, the hatred is rooted from cycles of pain, nurtured by disdain and bears my brother’s remain. Terrorizing my brothers, sisters, mothers and fathers who media gives no name. We too are rising up, are fighting for justice, for our place, to denounce the hate and our voices will be heard, our votes will be counted and the boardrooms will feel our wallets. You have woken the quiet sleepy giant and awaken our community. Clubhouse reminded me this is not a zero sum game. Remove the laws, the obstacles in place to prevent a full scale participation of life, a citizenship. Enough, denigration, degradation, deprivation from a meaningful way of life. Nothing is done half measured or half assed, so damn right we’re going to contribute to an equitable society even if we’re just a wife.
