Four years ago I left my 20 year career as an art director. Throughout my design career working with industry leaders like CVS, Hasbro and Newell Rubbermaid, I watched as automation slowly began to replace my colleagues' jobs. It started with production designers and then during a 2014 presentation while working at Newell Rubbermaid the The Coca-Cola company gave a presentation how they had just created 1 million unique can designs that would be sold around the world. This was accomplished with just 100 designs and an algorithm. All I could think about was how many designers it would have taken to create such a feat and how close the industry was to permanently replacing corporate designers. There are so many careers that are heading down the path of automation that I made the decision to leave my design career to pursue helping people through politics and advocacy, which has led me to my current role here at Humanity Forward.
