As a gay male growing up in Korea, I found myself exploring as a way of subverting the bourgeois expectations placed on me by school, family, and society. Art gave me a voice to express my emotions and a way of finding truth within beauty. When my mother passed away in 2013, the loss push my art last rebellion into a more introspective direction, and it was after this period that I began to pursue art for full time. I began to have the shows in galleries in San Francisco, where I live.
Bright colors have been one of the most crucial elements of my art. For me, mixing colors referencing my life experience also refracts my feelings. Recently, I’m absorbed with combining neon colors and utilizing the new shapes and layers. This allows me to go deeper than just creating a beautiful painting and allows me to express the way I see the world. I mainly paint with acrylic, acrylic inks and oil.
