Bio

Jason serves as the Intermountain West Conservation Finance Director for the Trust for Public Lands. Based out of Colorado, Jason leads the creation of new local and state conservation, parks, climate, health, and equity funding in the Western states primarily through voter-approved ballot measures and legislative action, and with a specific focus on Colorado and the other four-corner states of Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico.

Jason has become a leader in Colorado in making progress connecting historically disenfranchised communities with the outdoors. Prior to joining TPL, Swann worked as a Land Policy Analyst at Western Resource Advocates, focusing on equitable access to the outdoors, access to decision-making, and managing and limiting access for natural resource protection. He is an alumnus of the well-recognized organization Outdoor Afro in Colorado and the co-founder of the organization, Rising Routes.

As the co-founder of Rising Routes, Jason connected with key government agencies and NGOs to help propose policy recommendations, in collaboration with over 60+ organizations, to pass the bipartisan Colorado Outdoor Equity Grant Program giving children and their families resources to take part in the recreational, educational, and career-building benefits of the outdoors. Before a career in conservation equity, Jason started his career as a financial consultant at TIAA spearheading efforts to grow College Retirement Equities Fund.

Jason was recently appointed by Governor Jared Polis to serve on the Environmental Justice Advisory Board and was recently appointed by Mayor Hancock to serve as the co-chair of the Environmental Justice Committee of the Sustainability Advisory Council. He also sits on the Board of Directors for the High Line Canal Conservancy and is a partner member to the Outdoor F.U.T.U.R.E. (Funds for Underrepresented, Tribes, Urban, Rural, Equity) in partnership with U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich’s office to establish a National Outdoor Equity Foundation to close the nature gap for youth and their families.
