MBA 🎓 - Final Project: “The effects of canine presence on the workplace in the UK” 🐶

The research was developed to understand the perceived drawbacks and benefits on well-being and stress reduction that dog-friendly workplaces have to employees and consequently understand the effectiveness of the practices and develop recommendations for stakeholders.

Some key findings that add value to the work in the area are: Dogs in the UK workplace have a perceived positive impact on employees’ well-being and stress reduction. This is important because nowadays, jobs are demanding and British people spend a lot of hours in the office; hence, improving employees’ well-being is essential. Canines in the office help employees feel better, happier, more relaxed, take breaks and reset the mind. Findings also revealed that dogs positively impact other areas related to organisational culture like attractiveness for recruitment, stronger working relationships, a better working environment and increased company loyalty. These areas are relevant for any organisation willing to promote a healthy workplace and also, to minimise the turnover rate and enhance job satisfaction and commitment. Nonetheless, the practice also has its challenges, bringing distractions, accidents, hygiene concerns, allergies, phobias, limitations in recruitment and owner’s tension as the key drawbacks in the UK. As some disadvantages can cause a detrimental effect on certain employees and organisational outputs, leaders have to consider all sides and make adequate decisions.
