Through large-scale, performative sculptures that fuse music, language and light, Es Devlin pushes our perceptions of what art can be. She draws on her deep understanding of audience engagement – acquired through her experience as a world-renowned stage designer for Beyoncé, Billie Eilish, The Weeknd, Adele, U2, Louis Vuitton and Kanye West – to encourage participation and give a voice to all. Today, she continues to develop her practice as an artist, engaging with experimental work using AI, poetry, light and sculpture . Sensory and kinetic, her craft elicits emotional responses and leaves a lasting impression on people’s memories.
Es has displayed at the V&A, Barbican, Trafalgar Square, the Costume Institute Exhibition at the MET Museum New York and designed the Weeknd's half-time performance at the Superbowl this year as well as the London Olympic Closing Ceremony and Rio Olympic Opening Ceremony. She is the recipient of three Olivier Awards, the London Design Medal, Royal Designer for Industry and an OBE and is conceiving the UK Pavilion at the World Expo 2020 in Dubai.
Her work is the subject of the Netflix series: Abstract the Art of Design and her new large scale maze installation will be shown alongside works by TeamLab and JamesTurrell at SUPERBLUE, PACE Gallery's new experiental Arts Centre opening in Miami this Spring.
