Hey yall! I’m Erricka! 👋🏾
I am translational researcher with a special focus on perinatal epidemiology and examining the relationship between pre-eclampsia, race and racism, and intergenerational factors.
I serve on a large-scale regional study, called The Pittsburgh Study, to promote thriving among children and youth in the Pittsburgh region. We engage in conversations with those who are pregnant about gaps in knowledge, social and health inequities and disparities, specifically about dismantling systems that keep race and racialized medical and science practices in place. Without a major paradigm shift, more Black women like me will experience adverse pregnancy outcomes such as pre-eclampsia.
Leveraging knowledge gained through lifting up community voices, particularly those who have been minoritized, we conduct rigorous, community-centered research to understand and promote perinatal health, including reducing preeclampsia.
