Michael R. Mantell earned his Ph.D. at the University of Pennsylvania in 1976, after completing his M.S. degree in Clinical Psychology at the Hahnemann Medical College.
After 45 years, he retired as a clinical psychologist and has been continuing his career - refired and rewired - as a highly sought-after behavioral sciences coach, international keynote speaker, physician wellness and fitness industry consultant, media spokesperson, and author of four bestselling books.
He has served as Chief Psychologist for Children’s Hospital of San Diego as well as for the San Diego Police Department, as an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at UCSD Medical School, a consultant to the FBI and the US Postal Service on PTSD, and as Chief Behavioral Science Consultant for the American Council on Exercise and Anytime Fitness. He is a member of the Science Advisory Board of the International Council on Active Aging and a member of the Advisory Board of Active Entities Consulting, a global health and fitness initiative. He is a visiting lecturer for Point Loma Nazarene University’s Integrative Wellness program. Most recently, he’s co-developed and co-led a yearly, three-day intensive program on Physician Wellness for the American Academy of Hematology, where he regularly consults on burnout and related issues. Dr. Mantell is an frequent speaker on healthy aging, the mindset of longevity, organizational effectiveness, integrative behavioral and health coaching, obesity, medical fitness, and related topics. He has brought these topics to media, professional organizations, university and corporate audiences for decades.
He is an international authority on helping people disturb themselves less, and find lasting change, contentment, and a more awakened, healthier life as they move past crippling emotions like anxiety, stress, depression, and burnout with his short-term, rational-emotive/cognitive-behavioral, compassionate coaching approaches.
