Dr. Francine Edwards began her career in the television industry in 1989 at WHSV TV in Harrisonburg, Virginia. In 1991, she began an 11 year career with Black Entertainment Television (BET). In 2000, she made a career transition to the public affairs area and began working as a public affairs specialists for the District of Columbia Department of Health, where she used her contacts in the entertainment industry to launch several celebrity-driven healthcare campaigns in the city. In 2002 her career path led her to the public affairs department of NASA where she worked for NASA Television. As a part of the team that was staffed during the 2003 Challenger Shuttle crash, she was instrumental in providing the media with essential news footage, data and other information related to recovery efforts.
Edwards is currently serving as the Dean of the College of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences at Delaware State University. She has oversight of five departments, including History, Psychology, Mass Communications, Visual and Performing Arts, Music, and Sociology and Criminal Justice.
Edwards has given two TEDx talks and continues to engage in academic research with interests in social media usage, social media marketing and media literacy and crisis communication.
Away from the academic environment, Edwards provides organizational consulting and digital production services.
