I hope that I can listen to and learn from people who know more than I do about entrepreneurship.

I am an ESL teacher by training but am making a really big pivot to a project that combines retail, events, baking and education. And being who I am (♊️sun and ♑️rising) I need to learn as much as I can before jumping in. And I'm thinking that pop-ups may be the way to go for beta testing.

In the past 10 months I have found two hobbies that really ground me.

For my birthday @gabehayes got me loppers and I spend months learning about pruning from Cass Turnbull's book "Guide to Pruning" and doing hours and hours of trail maintenance as we hid out from COVID in the woods. And it's not about contemporary pruning techniques. But. William Bryant Logan's 2019 book, "Tending the Endless Gift of Trees," was just so mind expanding and brought me such joy when we were so separate from everyone.

And when we moved back to our Brooklyn neighborhood of 10 years, I needed to find something I could do to replace all the things we did in the evening previously. And I discovered watercolor and the teacher Ana Victoria Calderon @anavictoriana and her classes and books have been amazing. I've never been that good at sitting still. But this painting thing I can do.

And like with pruning a tree, a brushstroke of watercolor can't be erased. And just having to get into the headspace that perfection isn't the goal and that the thought, "OH!! I wish I had done ---- instead," isn't me beating my self up for making mistakes. It's just a signal that I've learned something, and that I'm progressing.
