Trained in organizational planning, policy analysis, communications & public relations, and skilled in project delivery and non-profit leadership, he possesses 7 years’ on-the-field experience working in similar roles to program/project coordinator for international organizations in the non-profit sector.
A Robert Bosch Stiftung Alumnus, Carrington Youth Fellow (a program of the U.S Consulate, Lagos) and Regional Coordinator, West Africa for the Bosch Alumni Network, Dennis Adewunmi Akin is a social crusader/activist who has successfully mobilized, led, and monitored grassroots projects and campaigns in over 20 rural and deprived grassroots communities in Nigeria.
He is the convener, National Youth Summit for SDGs – a high-level, national event that gathers over 1000 student leaders and young change-makers across colleges and tertiary institutions in Nigeria for youth-led social impact conversations and campaigns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in focus. The 2019 inaugural edition held at the 5,000 seating capacity Multipurpose halls of the University is reputed as the largest, first-of-its-kind, youth-led convergence of young people by young for conversations about young people in Nigeria.
Within the past ten years, Dennis has consistently volunteered for several global nonprofits including Junior Chamber International [JCI] –where he served as local organization president for the University of Lagos chapter in 2016, ENACTUS, AIESEC, Theirworld in London, and Peace First.
In the wake of the COVID-19 Pandemic, he started a project, The Nourished Child Project, with a mission to reduce stunting and undernutrition among children living in orphanages within his community by providing them with alternative sources of sustainable food nourishment. Leveraging underutilized materials like tyres, woods, wire mesh, plastic bottles, paint containers, and other household materials, this project promotes sustainable and resilient food systems for vulnerable people and households.
Dennis has successfully handled global and national projects and his works featured on national media organizations including CHANNELS TV, National Television Authority [NTA], Television Continental [TVC], African Independent Television [AIT], Kaftan TV, amongst other TV, Online Blogs and Media platforms.
