David Rams has worked with some of culture’s biggest icons over the past 30 years. David’s keen eye as a photographer has seen his work grace the pages of publications such as: Playboy, ( was one of Playboy’s main photographers for 17 years ), Esquire and Interview magazines to name a few. You may have seen his photos of Morgan Freeman, Woody Harrelson, Tony Bennett, Outkast, Cee-Lo Green or the timeless English actress Jane Seymour. But behind all great art the story of it’s creator is equally as compelling as the subjects themselves.
David grew up in Ontario, Canada and in the decades since his love affair with the camera has taken him across NE Canada staying in church basements , sleeping in freezing cars during the winter, to fashion shoots in Miami or a country estates in Europe. A self taught artist, it has always been David’s empathic love of people that has compelled him forward.
If you were to read through the numerous interviews David has granted for publications over the years one thread runs through them, his ability to earn the emotional trust of his subjects. It may be a Bloomingdales fashion shoot, a pictorial for Playboy (of which there were many shoots) or a celebrity whose personal life is often guarded, David’s ability to maintain professional and artistic integrity while harnessing intimate portraits is the stuff most photographers dream of.
Many artists have that “ah ha” moment regarding their craft and for David it came in the form of his son Max. “When Max was very young I naturally as a proud father took many photos of him. On one occasion I became highly aware that the apparatus of the camera as a machine had vanished from my mind, I was connected via camera on a much deeper level. The experience really stuck with me, it has allowed me to draw things out of people during production that my subjects don’t even know they have inside of themselves.”
His love for people. His ability to translate that love into consistently exceptional work has made him the photographer of choice for a list of luminary artists, corporations, publications and celebrities around the World.
