I grew up in small-town Minnesota, l in a house filled with music. Blessed with a powerful mezzo-contralto, I have degrees in both vocal performance and composition. After years of performing as a solo artist as well as in ensemble, I created An American Songline, a unique approach to telling the story of America through song.

Each American Songline project explores a theme or historical event, from the creation of the first transcontinental highway to the First World War and the Women’s Suffrage movement. Equally at home singing operatic arias, century-old protest anthems or classics from the Great American Songbook, I sing every tune just as it would have been heard back in the day, complete with verses often forgotten by modern interpreters. I also collaborate with contemporary composers and incorporate new pieces into my programs as well.
