WHY IT MATTERS:
🚜 Agriculture has become a consumer of energy, not a producer of energy - at the expense of natural resources.
⚡️For 1 unit of energy output, industrial farming consumes 10 units of energy input (EROI - Energy return on investment) while in non-industrial farming 5 units of energy output requires 1 unit of energy input (1999, Human ecology review).
🌽 2.5 billion people worldwide depend on agriculture for their livelihood. 90% of agricultural holdings are small-structured. 90% of agricultural holdings are small-scale and produce 80% of the world's food in non-industrialised countries (FAO, GRAIN).
💪 We want to strengthen smallholder farmers with adapted, frugal technology, for a plus-energy agriculture with thriving agro-ecosystems.
