Florida artist known for her nature-inspired work in soft sculpture, fused plastic bag installations, and textile wall collage, Alissa Alfonso creates beautiful objects that repurpose the past in order to speak to the future. From hand-dyed, upcycled fabric sculptures modeled after healing plants in her “Nature’s Medicine” collection to her work developing an entirely green, alternative art program called “Off the Canvas” in Broward County schools, Alfonso’s work reveals her passion to preserve natural environments and to reconnect her community with the surrounding natural abundance. She showcases the work of other artists from around the country through curated pop-up shows in “Squatter,” a 1973 Shasta Compact Trailer she transformed into a mobile art gallery.
My art celebrates the freedom inherent in nature, recognizes lost & disappearing landscapes, and warns of a future where nature can no longer heal itself.
