Alexis Garrett Stodghill has worked in several different media silos, always with an eye towards how media directly interacts with audiences.
After graduating summa cum laude from Brown University with a dual degree in Modern Culture and Media, and English and American Literature, Alexis went on to work in New York City’s Silicon Alley. She was an early employee of the legendary start-up Agency.com, and worked on various teams to create corporate websites for companies such as American Express. Soon, Alexis was hired as a Senior Product Producer at Community Connect, where she co-led the launch of BlackPlanet.com, with its executive director Omar Wasow, a renowned futurist and scholar. Alexis helped to grow BlackPlanet.com into a mega-successful social networking site, with millions of members. It was bought by the media company Urban One.
After working on the platform side of the web industry, Alexis moved into content. First at AOL, she became an editor at what was then BlackVoices.com. (Now known as HuffPost Black Voices, AOL bought The Huffington Post during her tenure.) Alexis interviewed celebrities such as 50 Cent, produced a video podcast show, and much more. She then moved on to the startup Moguldom (which also sold to Urban One), where she was the Senior Producer at MadameNoire.com. She then became the New York and Living editor at TheGrio.com, when it was part of NBC News. There she reported on the Trayvon Martin case, race, women, policing, and technology.
Currently a social media manager and segment producer at MSNBC, Alexis continues her work in the online media world by managing the 900,000+ social media following of two new politics shows, where she also writes news segments.
Alexis decided to return to her lifelong love of filmmaking by attending Columbia University’s Film School, where she is also a candidate in the Creating Producing department. She was born in New York City, and lives in Manhattan.
