David N. Akwara is a filmmaker who has won numerous awards. Over the years, his films have screened at over 40 international film festivals. For his short film Impales, which has screened at over 20 international cinema festivals, he received the 2017 Indie Wise Convention USA Award and the 2018 Mtn Shortz Award.
His most recent documentary, THE RISE (A Journey To Africa's Financial Independence), is a pan-African docu-series on the African Single Market as part of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
As the founder and creative director of David Akwara Films, David is also involved in community building through documentary filmmaking, video partnerships, and empowering youth and communities to tell their own stories. As a panelist on a variety of topics, David has also conducted seminars and given lectures.
The National Action Committee African Continental Free Trade Area, Nigeria, and the Office of the Special Adviser to Nigeria's President on Public Matters, to name a few, have funded David's creative work, outreach, and research.
In 2020, he received a Community Service Award and was named to Mayorkings Agency's list of the 100 Most Influential Young Deltans. The ZI Prize for Empathy and Creative Genius will be awarded in 2021.
He also serves on the advisory board of the Pan African Women Business Association (PABWA).
