What is the true wealth of the families of our diverse school communities? How can we access this wealth in ways that help our BIPOC/culturally and linguistically diverse (CLD) families feel valued? How can we help grow our businesses by understanding the diverse communities/stakeholders?
When we start to use these questions as a guide we are able to open our mind to all the treasures our families bring to our classrooms and school communities. This wealth is often misunderstood, invalidated and ignored by our public school system because it is not valued as a key component of our students' knowledge repertoire. By utilizing tenets of Yosso's Community Cultural Wealth (CCW)as a map to assist us to engage our families, we can create the partnership that all our students deserve. I will discuss fundamental and useful ways we can apply CCW to open the doors to authentic ways to build relationships, engage our BIPOC/CLD families while discovering that authentic sauce of the BIPOC/CLD family identity.
