SELCO, a social enterprise started in 1995, as one of the early pioneers of a decentralised renewable energy in rural areas as means for poverty alleviation. Since 26 years of its inception, SELCO has powered around 6,50,000 households and 5000+ institutions with solar power. It has been able to reach customers through it's strong service network of 67 energy centers, across 5 states in India. This network enables SELCO to provide its customers with prompt, reliable and effective after-sales service and also partner with local financial institutions to deploy cash-flow based credit to enhance affordability of solutions.

SELCO specialises in designing different solar applications for household appliances, agricultural water pumps, public lighting systems such as street lights and garden lights, solar water heaters, cold storages, village hamlets through mini-grids and many more. SELCO has provided solar power for different types of institutions, some of which include NGOs, colleges, schools, hostels, medical centres, vocational training centres, community centres, religious institutions and small businesses. SELCO's expertise lies in designing and deploying need based solutions for end users in an economically, financially and environmentally sustainable manner.

SELCO's decentralised solar solutions are based on its two decade old approach on centering the end user needs within local contexts and recognising that sustainability requires a three pronged lens of technology, cash-flow based financial models and business cases that are cognisant of existing social capital and/or ownership structures. With the ultimate goal to eradicate poverty, and vulnerability through the usage of renewable energy (solar), SELCO is growing day by day & showing it's deep involvement as a strong entity for sustainable ecosystem development overall.
