Crowdsourcing a Script on Clubhouse

Okay, this is an admittedly absurd idea. The odds are, it will NOT work. But why should that stop us?

WHAT ARE WE DOING?

Screenwriting. We’re going to hive-mind the perfect screenplay. Did I already mention that it probably won’t work? It won’t.

HOW ARE WE GOING TO DO IT?

The club will be limited to 100 writers. An equal split of men and women. We’ll seek out BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ members. We’ll try to have both seasoned screenwriters and emerging writers.

Inside our club, rooms can be started by anyone who wants to knock about ideas. Almost like our own TV writer’s room.

We’ll begin with a collaborative Google doc and allow our writers to start adding ideas for our movie. Moving from story idea to outline, as well as from outline to script will require a 2/3 vote from our active membership. When we start the screenplay, we’ll transition to a shared screenwriting program with writers being able to “check out” the document while they are working on it.

Nominated members will need to receive a thumbs up from at least 75% of the active membership before they are allowed into the club. All members must participate in a meaningful way. Folks who lose interest will be asked to step down. No shade, we just want to make sure there aren’t six people contributing, and 94 getting a free trip to the Oscars. The finished screenplay will have all of our names on it.

While this is a hive-mind screenplay, we clearly need SOMEONE to function as the “editor”. Josh Stolberg will function as the first “editor” of the document/script. BUT… a new “editor” can be voted on by the membership and if there is another writer who is kicking ass and should clearly be in charge… Josh will be kicked to the curb and the new editor will take over with a simple majority vote. The hope is that this position will change hands many times.

(FINAL NOTE: this is ridiculous and won’t work. But I would have said that about Mango and chili powder. Or wearing a dress with sneakers. Or chocolate covered potato chips. And all of those work.
