The Fairness Doctrine on Clubhouse

In 1949 the FCC established a set of regulations for owners of broadcast spectrum (television📺). It essentially was an addendum to an earlier act (the Radio 📻 Act of 1927). The primary purpose of the 1949 iteration was to abate the rise in misinformation regarding matters germane to the public’s interest. In a nutshell owners of broadcast licenses were duty bound to present controversial matters of importance to the the public in an open, honest and equitable manner whereby contrasting views are afforded. It was called the Fairness Doctrine.

When Ronald Wilson Reagan was elected in 1980 he immediately began chipping away with the statutes that governed truthfulness in media until it was finally abolished in 1987 under the guise of free speech. In the absence of The Fairness Doctrine a misinformation cottage industry arose. Fox News is a primary and direct example of the insidious intent behind its repeal.

Fast forward to today where we are in the midst of the Information Age where almost any pertinent fact is available to any intellectually curious mind yet misinformation is a bigger problem today than it was in 1949 when The Fairness Doctrine was created.

The Fairness Doctrine (the CH club) aims to fix this festering problem. In this club and in these rooms the only side that matters is the truth. If the premise of your argument is rooted in logical fallacies and intellectually dishonest tropes this is not a safe space for you.
