Snipples on Clubhouse

This story is in honor of Heather's pillow, providing a resting place for our quiet angel every night.

In 1989, William "Billy" Redbum and his 8-year-old son, Joaquin, lived in an apartment on the east side of Detroit. When they moved in, the landlord explicitly mentioned that no pets were allowed.

Billy decided to ignore that.

The first pet that Billy and Joaquin bought was a lizard, named Julio. The day after they bought him, presumably for reasons of excessive love, committed suicide.

Joaquin was devastated. To soothe his son's tears, he said they could go find another pet. They set off on a warm, sunny day to the Humane Society of East Detroit, where, upon arrival, Joaquin immediately ran toward a cat with nine, huge nipples.

To this day, no one knows why.

Billy, now slightly embarrassed, joined his son by the cats. This cat, a dark blue cat with snakelike green eyes, hissed at Billy, but was loved by Joaquin, who asked his dad if they could buy the cat.

Billy said yes, but on one condition: they had to name it immediately.

Racking his brain, Joaquin yelled the first thing that popped into his mind:

"NIPPLES!"

Billy looked at his son, who gazed back longingly with his wide blue eyes.

Billy sighed and said, "What if we took the 's' off the end of nipples and name it snipple?"

Joaquin, always a rambunctious child, refused. In fact, he was now shouting nipples louder than ever. People were looking.

James, an off-duty firefighter standing nearby, looked over. He sighed as he said to himself, "I need my hoes," then left.

Then, out of Joaquin's mouth, came the greatest name in the history of humankind for a pet:

"SNIPPLES."
