Description

This is a club for Japanese people in Japan to connect with and exchange perspectives with non-Japanese people both in and outside of Japan as well as Japanese people who live abroad on a variety of issues, from being LGBTQ in Japan, to feminism globally, to racism both in Japan and elsewhere, and much much more. We hope to move the needle forward in terms of certain social issues (ie feminism, LGBTQ, racism, mental health, etc) amongst the Japanese through these conversations, but also dispel and disrupt the often narrow and stereotypical views of Japan and the Japanese held by non-Japanese that have been largely constructed and perpetuated by Western media. We also want to create a forum for Japanese people to better understand and learn about issues happening abroad, like cultural appropriation, Black Lives Matter, etc, that aren’t being fully captured or accurately explained in Japanese media.

We will have a mix of discussions with some primarily in English, some primarily in Japanese, and some that are in both Japanese and English, so that a wide variety of people can participate.
