Harlem is the Mecca of African-American culture. From its inception as a Black Metropolis in the early 1900s, to its heyday during the Harlem Renaissance of the 1930s and 1930s, and it being ground zero during the Black Power Movement of the 1960 and 1970s -- if it involved Black culture, it involved Harlem. In the last 20 years Harlem has undergone a serious shift in its racial identity -- but its storied past has forever earned its place in history, and foretells its significance in the future of our community.
