Bio
Steve Shelley is best known as the drummer of Sonic Youth. He has recorded and toured with Thurston Moore, Lee Ranaldo, Emma Tricca, Spectre Folk, Howe Gelb, Mick Harvey, J.P. Shilo and Gata Pirâmide & Riviera Gaz ( both based in São Paulo, Brazil).
In recent years he has recorded and/or performed with Yoko Ono, Malcolm Mooney ( of Can), Yasmine Hamdan, Peter Walker and Mercury Rev, Hallogallo 2010 (with Neu’s Michael Rother), Wylde Ratttz ( with The Stooges’ Ron Asheton), Jad Fair, Richard Hell, Disappears, and Cat Power.
He runs several record labels including Vampire Blues and curates the Sonic Youth live archive on Bsndcamp and during the pandemic Steve has been a DJ on Memphis radio station WYXR and online radio station Gimme Country.
