Bio

I was born in 1953.
Since 1986 I've had several jobs in the medical field. At this time I work with hospice patients. It is my belief that everyone should be given the chance to die with dignity in a comfortable, peaceful way.
and then I offer after care for families as long as they need to deal with grief and loss after a patient is no longer with us in a physical body.
I am a musician. I teach band students grades 6 through 12. I got my teaching degree at Texas Tech University in Lubbock Texas. My major instrument was percussion.
Teachers don't make a lot of money so I decided to become a massage therapist which I enjoy very much.
I worked at the rehab center for the blind in Austin Texas where I was able to teach braille, arts and crafts, daily living skills like cooking, shopping, personal care, sewing and that was a lot of fun.
I got my first Seeing Eye dog in 1972 when I graduated from high school I was ready to learn the Texas Tech campus and begin my adventures as a dog handler which had been my plan after I met a person who used a guide dog in 1965. It was one of the most exciting goals as I waited for that summer to finally arrive after my high school graduation. The first time I walked with my dog in Morristown New Jersey I felt like I was flying! It was thrilling to walk safely at 4 and a half miles an hour!
Having a dog walking with me gave me courage to do so many things that I probably wouldn't have done if I used a white cane as my mobility aid. It is important to have good cane skills at all times and I make sure I practice using my cane frequently. That is especially important when I am between dogs or if I need to go somewhere that a dog can't go for some reason.
I was married but my husband passed away a few years ago.
I don't have children of my own but I have the chance to enjoy all of my band students! At home I usually have lots of animals.
