After 15 years of my work as general counsel for growing companies, I stumbled on a way to communicate with clients and opposing counsel that revealed that we, as attorneys, have been going about this all wrong. (Spoiler alert: the way we communicate is antiquated.)

We communicate about complex legal documents and notions with clients, opposing counsel and arbiters. Our ability to persuade and explain things simply is KEY. Yet we’re not sure clients understand us, and we don’t win as much as we should.

So, here’s what happened...💡

I recorded my screen and voice explaining the complexities of a legal document and sent the recording to my client. They could read it, see it, hear it, on their own time, privately, and repeatedly if necessary. It worked. Really well.

💡Then I used the same screen and audio recording method to argue agreement terms with an opposing counsel. Again, it worked crazy well. I got 90% of the terms I wanted (easily).

This is how DocuPlayer works:

➀ Login to docuplayer.com, launch recorder.

➁ Select recording area, click record and begin speaking. Scroll through the document(s) on your screen and explain or argue away.

➂ Email/submit the recording with a password-protected link, your client or opposing counsel can click the link, hear your voice and follow along in the document on their screen. They can play, rewind and re-watch, at their pace.
