**Bitcoin** FAQ (not financial advice)
-why?
Hedge against inflation, provably scarce and un-tampered asset, un-censorable. Check out Michael Saylor https://youtu.be/li3a7lKRlFk
-how does it work?
Proof of work secures the chain, you need energy to propose blocks, itâs provably expensive for everyone (no cheating with admin signatures or human intervention) and provably stable (economic incentives, no trust required in large owners and founders) more details: https://www.manning.com/books/grokking-bitcoin
-where do I get it?
By mining or purchasing it, purchasing from an exchange will require KYC
-how do I store it?
Use an hardware wallet to generate your keys, possibly never connect that hardware to the internet. Your keys will also have a 12/24 words representation called seed, which you should write and store in a safe place. TEST your seed, itâs your backup when everything else goes wrong.
-privacy?
Bitcoin is pseudonymous, itâs possible to follow coins through wallets and also to bind IP to wallets. You can mix your coins with othersâ while making transfers (coinjoin) which creates anonimity sets (you could be anyone inside the set). This approach taints your coins, i.e. other entities may know that you used it. Bitcoin privacy is not easy (yet): https://bitcoiner.guide/privacy/
-taxes?
Holding doesnât incur in owernship tax in most countries, whenever you sell at a profit (higher price than purchase) youâll pay a % of the profit varying with jurisdiction. Ask an accountant in your jurisdiction.
