No plastic is "good" plastic. Most of your plastic products are not recyclable. Most recycled plastics are down-cycled. Only plant based products are biodegradable. Even your bamboo toothbrush has nylon bristles, and your paper cups have plastic linings. The worst kind of plastics are small plastics that cant be sorted and only break down into nano particles. Currently, there is no drinking water in the world that is not contaminated with micro plastics. Plastic is one the single biggest cause for pollution and degradation of the environment. Reduce reuse and recycle are cute terms thrown out by companies to put the responsibility on your shoulders as a consumer. To have any large scale impact in reduction of plastics, the production of new plastics must stop at all costs.
We need an aggressive anti-plastic movement, like we do for any other human rights movement. Governments need to BAN plastics and heavily fund research in biodegradable options!
