*Black Masculinity, Emotional Intimacy, & Psycho-Spirituality Expert*
Dr. Gadsden currently is an Assistant Professor, licensed psychology associate, and a cultural-relational psychoanalytically trained psychotherapist with over 17 years of experience in providing therapy to individuals and families.
He earned his PhD. in Counseling Psychology in 2012 from Howard University. He previously earned his Master's Degree in 2005 from Teachers College, Columbia University.
He is an applied psychologist, professor, writer, and psychotherapist who for over 17 years has focused my research and clinical work on black masculinity and psycho-spiritual healing. His practice focuses on males (with a keen interest and expertise with African-American/Black/African/Caribbean males), families, and older adolescents. Since he conceptualizes and treats from a cultural-relational psychoanalytic lens, his work with clients is centered on deeply understanding how unresolved issues of all types as well as cultural issues (e.g. internalized oppression, discrimination, sexism) impede a deep knowing of the self and authentic living.
His diverse career and training include many years as an academic teaching/training both Master's level and PhD/Psy.D students, conducting research focused on masculinity and emotional intimacy, and writing/scholarship in the aforementioned areas.
Dr. Gadsden is also a published author; having published a number of articles, psycho-cultural essays, and book chapters. In the spirit of continuing to improve his understanding of the complexity of clinical work and dynamics, Dr. Gadsden is currently a 2nd Year Psychoanalytic Candidate at the Object Relations Institute in NYC.
