Born in 1985 to a revolutionary family committed to social justice liberation and the Black power movement, Socorro has been advocating for and working with Black community members for over a decade, assisting them with resources and linking them to others within the community.
Socorro was destined to lead by example just as their great grandfather Lewis Baskerville did when he housed the Black Panther Party space at his church and even assisted them with organizing and founding the free breakfast program.
His mother even marched with Cesar Chavez and the UFW in response to the trafficking and abuse of Brown community members by the farming industry.
Socorro has been involved in Black LGBT advocacy for over a decade. He created the movement known as #brotherhood510, which empowers trans-masculine people of color to access community resources and to connect with one another via social media and through creative outlets.
Socorro founded the first ever Transgender Pride March held in Oakland California September 2019. In the following year, Socorro made sure that the city of Oakland recognized Transgender black and brown activists by dedicating the first week of September to those who are actively fighting for equity amongst that community through a written proclamation.
Socorro continues to shine a light on the Bay Area Black community as a whole. They believe in equity, opportunity and chance. Socorro is the face of Black Oakland and generationally inspired to lead those who built it as well as their children out of the ashes.
