Babu went to SIES College, Bombay, Indiaand began his career as an Assistant Director in the early 70s. he subsequentlyadvanced his studies in film at Tisch and NYU in New York Cityandcontinuedworking as an Assistant Director for the late Italian Director Sergio Corbucci on spaghetti westerns such as "Super Fuzz," "Odds and Evens," and "Hands Off The Island." He later moved to Hollywoodto further his career as an Assistant Directorand got acceptance to the Director's Guild of America West. Between the early 80s and 2000s, Babu worked as a First Assistant Directoron multiple high profileTVshows such as The Paper Chase, Hill Street Blues, Star Trek-TNG, ER, Outsourced,Memphis Beat, Outlaw Country, Bounce, The New Normal, Betas and Code Blackand theatrical features such as The Untamed Heart, Home of OurOwn, Dennis Hopper’s Chasers, The Cemetary Club, Money For Nothing and Royceamong others.Babu has directed multiple episodes of "ER" and has also directed episodes of“ONE TREE HILL,”, “THE DIVISION,” “THIRDWATCH,” “ED” and “STRONG MEDICINE.” Besides conducting workshops for Line Producers and First ADs working for Netflix-India and Amazon-India, he ispresently in development on projects entitled “BHOPAL”an 8-part limited series, “Passage Against The Tides,” a 13-part limited mini-series about the Punjabi(Sikh)/Mexicans set in the Americas of the early 1900sand Smuggling For Gandhi, an indie featurewhich he is scheduled to direct in 2021.He continues to stay connected with his directing craft having just completed a workshop with Larry Moss on working with actors.
