No one can lay claim to being a holistic musician like Shu Mei, as she is adept in music education, performance, composition and production of music albums of different genres.
Since graduation from the prestigious New England Conservatory of Music and Trinity College of Music (London), she performed in The Singapore Symphony Orchestra from 1990-1993. Shu Mei is able to successfully leverage on a solid classical music foundation, and she demonstrates an amazing versatility by further establishing herself as a leading violinist in diverse music genres.
Vastly recognized in the area of music education, Shu Mei is one of the founders of the well-respected Mandeville Conservatory of Music. This conservatory has a niche in initiating music education in young children as early as 0-3 years old. Shu Mei is the author of the conservatory’s violin, piano and preschooler methodology books. Since its establishment in 1995, many successful musicians have been nurtured.
Shu Mei has been the program director of the Singapore International String Conference since its inception in 2000, where world-leading pedagogues, strings educators, performers, students, parents and music enthusiasts come together to share their knowledge and expertise.
Her passion for music led to her production of two successful albums.
Jazz Canvas ~ Asian Memories” is a collection of infectious Asian melodies with a refreshing jazz spin.
“The Great I AM” displays her bold and intelligent take on the genre of jazz gospel music.
Shu Mei has been, and will continue to be, a major force to be reckoned with in the music industry in Singapore.
