Bio

Shawna Baca is an Indigenous Chicana award-winning writer, director, author, and a mental health advocate.

She was selected by Steven Spielberg from 20,000 filmmakers to be part of his 2007 FOX reality show, ON THE LOT. She has been producing new media content for corporate clients since. She was a film festival director for a Latin/Hispanic non-profit 501-c3 organization, "Nosotros," founded in 1971 by actor and activist Ricardo Montalban. She has been given recognition by the city of Los Angeles, Washington D.C., Latin Style Magazine, and La Opinion Newspaper for creating content that reflects positive portrayals of diversity in the media.

She is the author of the transformational memoir, ‘FEAR LESS: Conquering the Demons of Mental Purgatory,’ which chronicles her downward spiral into the belly of mental illness at the age of twenty-one, and her Indigenous mother’s plight to take her to see an Indigenous Medicine Man from the Pala Indian Reservation, to heal her.

She also has a blog, the ‘FEAR LESS Society,’ which serves as an open discussion on all topics related to mental illness and awareness.

Her screenplay, SPACE FOR RAVEN, a coming-of-age story about Raven Montoya, an East Los Angeles high school girl whose whole life has been determined by the creed of the Latino street gang that her family belongs to and her dream of wanting to become an astronaut, is a 2021 Stowe Story Labs Finalist, 2021 BIPOC Writers Fellowship Finalist, 2021 Screencraft Screenwriters Fellowship Quarterfinalist, 2020 Austin Film Festival Second Rounder, 2020 WeScreenplay Diverse Voices Semi-Finalist, and a 2020 Script Pipeline Quarter-Finalist.
