الأخلاق ليست حصرا على أحد، بل الأخلاق موجودة قبل الأديان، ومثال على ذلك شريعة حمورابي.

الأخلاق فلسفة، ومثال على الفلسفة الأخلاقية المعيارية هي القاعدة الذهبية، التي تنص على انه: "يجب على المرء أن يعامل الآخرين كما يود أن يعامله الآخرون".

• لا تعامل الآخرين كما لا تحب ان يعاملونك
• ما تتمناه لغيرك، تمناه لنفسك

وتعود هذه القاعدة الى زمن كونفشيوش (551-479 قبل الميلاد) وتبنتها العديد من الايديولوجيا والاديان والثقافات وقد ذكر هذه القاعدة يسوع أيضًا فقال:
"وَكَمَا تُرِيدُونَ أَنْ يَفْعَلَ النَّاسُ بِكُمُ افْعَلُوا أَنْتُمْ أَيْضًا بِهِمْ هكَذَا." (لو 6: 31)
