Samir is a chef, life coach, retreat facilitator, and speaker living in Harlem, New York City, learning to love well. He’d like to have a dog and for a dog to have him.

He clocked 10,000 cooking hours by the time he was 16, guest-hosted a cooking show on national television in 8th grade and cooked for 6,000 soldiers in East Europe. Samir was a pastor for a decade, got Ph.D. in Human Development, and coached hundreds of activists and executives over 15 years.

All of his live he had been driven by the riddle of the kitchen. What happens there? What happens to us there?

He believed that this year is an opportunity for us to stop collecting self-improvement hacks and instead turn to the powerful practices that already make up our lives.

Why atone for your gifts?
Express remorse for
your ability, begging
pardon in public?

Be instead, the
unrepentant virtuoso!
For you choose to stand
showing us the spirit stir,
then fill and overflow
within you.

The spirit does not
ask forgiveness,
nor permission.
And upon your stage
You can do no wrong.

Get out of the way,
we love what you have
and need no reminder
of our sentence here
on earth, please,
