“This is my Iran. This is the villages of Bushehr and the heat of Abadan. This is the mountains of Ardestan and the sun shining through the stain glass windows of Esfahan while I lay between mountains listening to shajarian and sharifian. My Iran is tired of the over used memes of nose jobs, BMWs and doogh jokes. My Iran is more than westernised surface level views. My Iran is love and truth. Its history is beyond proud intellectual fools. My Iran is colourful. It has felt pain and caused it before my time and today. But It is where I will always want to be. I dream of seeing my grandmother follow her zartosht beliefs and my other grandmother reading the Quran next to each other, I hear my Qajar ancestors telling me that it’s okay to grow my body hair and to love who I love. I dream of my great grandmother tattooing her skin by the palm trees in Bushehr. Listen to voices of the people before you. trace your roots embrace it and educate. That’s my Iran and nothing less.🇮🇷🧿
